Change is the engine of progress. It is part of every kind of organisation, but it is always driven by people. It often looks complex, yet in the end it comes down to the same question: what does this mean for the people who have to do it? In recent years I have worked in the energy transition, focusing on system integration and flexible electricity use, in the Netherlands and beyond. In that cross-border world, change is literally an everyday reality. Technology, policy and behaviour have to be aligned continuously. It was precisely there that I came to see how important it is to reduce complex questions to what they concretely ask of governments, companies and people.
Change only succeeds when it is practical and achievable, and when it is clear what it asks of those who have to work with it. That calls for a clear translation of abstract goals into concrete steps. My strength lies in working out together what a change asks of a team, an organisation or an individual, so that change becomes something you can get started on today. That is what energises me.
